P Class Class Descriptions
P=Prerequisite: ABC Obedience Beginner or equivalent with approval needed first. (note: all classes described may not be currently offered)
* Attention/Leash Work Outside Get your dog to pay attention to you, even with distractions! Stop leash pulling. First 1-2 weeks at ABC, then out in public.
* Beg II Beginner II. After Beginner group or equivalent. Learn new skills & get more distance, duration & distraction. Assumes basic stays and heeling skills. Recommended before Intermediate if possible
* CGC Canine Good Citizen. Prep for CGC Test, Basic skills some insurance/landlords use as proof of training. www.akc.org for more info. We will offer a test at some point.
Coffee & Canines Part of the "Polite in Public" series. Week 1 at ABC to learn and practice behavior control in public. Week 2 in real life (coffee, tea, etc). Have a dog that sets up in position while you are seated. Remains on down stay even if other dogs are around or a server comes to the table. Leave dropped food and napkins, etc. A bit of training leads to more quality time with your dog in social settings!
Come When Called Open to all! This one has no pre-requisite of doing our previous classes. Start from square one and focus exclusively on having a dog that returns to you when called - really!
Desserts & Doggies Part of the "Polite in Public" series. Week 1 at ABC to learn and practice behavior control in public. Week 2 in real life (probably ice cream). Have a dog that sets up in position while you are seated. Remains on down stay even if other dogs are around or a server comes to the table. Leave dropped food and napkins, etc. A bit of training leads to more quality time with your dog in social settings!
* Door Manners No more struggling when people arrive! Learn "back", "stay" and polite greetings. Teach your dog its ok to alert, then to take direction from you for calm behavior.
* Intermediate Variety class, something new each week. More advanced skills, fun for human and dog. After mastery of Beginner skills, minimum solid stay and heeling.
* Manners Focus on manners (basically anything that can embarrass you in front of others, LOL). Polite greetings, Behaving during meals, respecting doorways, car behavior, watching neighbors quietly, etc (leash work not part of the class)
Manners for All Focus on manners such as polite greetings at home and in public, behavior during meals, attention, etc. Not full obedience, so NO heeling, recalls or formal stays.
Nail Clipping First Sunday of month, unless holiday. 11 am-1 pm. $15. 1st come/1st serve, by left to right parking til we arrive & give numbers. Details: web, fbook or call. If you arrive before us, parking info: https://abcobedience.com/images/nailparking.jpg
Obstacles Obstacle classes. Mini agility, need no experience. Any age dog. Use energy/bond. Tunnel, poles, mini A-frame, tire-jump and more. New dogs taught in class (or do mini private first)
Obstacles Plus Combine 4 fun weeks of obstacles with a bit of training. No experience needed!
* Off Leash Verbal control! Connect with your dog in ways other than a leash and get real attention. A good challenge for any level.
Pups & Sups Part of the "Polite in Public" series. Week 1 at ABC to learn and practice behavior control in public. Week 2 in real life (probably appetizers). Have a dog that sets up in position while you are seated. Remains on down stay even if other dogs are around or a server comes to the table. Leave dropped food and napkins, etc. A bit of training leads to more quality time with your dog in social settings!
* Rally Obedience A fun new AKC show competition (open to mixed breeds too) that allows you to earn titles in a course style sport with obedience skills. First level is on leash! A great way to explore dog sports and maybe even prep for competition obedience.
* Recall Learn to have a dog that REALLY comes when called, the FIRST time, EVERY time. Even with distractions. Requires ABC previous training.
Service Dog Awareness For businesses or anyone interested in the regulations allowing animals into public places. Learn what you may ask and what is prohibited by law. When can you ask a pet to leave your establishment? What proof of certification exists? Free workshop, advanced registration required. Class may be 90 minutes, depending on question.
So You Want a Service Dog? Have you ever wondered what is involved in taking your canine friend out in public with you? Learn the differences between service animals, emotional support dogs, therapy dogs, etc. Introduction to the minimum public access skills required. Find out what equipment is best for your situation and where to look for further information.
* Therapy Dog Prep Get you and your dog ready to do therapy dog work such as visiting in hospitals, nursing homes, schools, etc. Build on basics - loose leash walking, stays, leave it and more. Info on therapy dog organizations and test materials. Great training and skills for control and reliability.
* Traveling Class
/Real Life
Traveling = with distractions! Train your dog in new, public places. Often the town green (call for details). Fun, challenging and often involves ice cream or a snack for the humans somewhere afterwards (optional), which is even more practice for your dogs.
Tricks Learn 3 new tricks. Choices include spin, take a bow, bang (play dead), back, paw, wave, giddy up & more.
* Walk This Way Focus on walking with a loose leash, get verbal control, not physical. Enjoy your summer walks and keep your arm in the socket and the pressure off your dog.
