Beginner groups are an effective and economical way to teach you to teach your dog!  Built in distractions and socializing, combined with individual attention make this an excellent format for learning - whether for the fist time or as a refresher course for the more experienced.

  • 6 weeks/$169 +tax
  • Small Class Size, 6-8 dogs per class
  • First week, humans only for an undistracted start AND
  • First week of beginner groups (mandatory!) may be held at slightly different time (see above)
  • 6 foot leash required (any material/leather, no chain or retractable leashes!)
  • All classes require prepaid registration to ensure your enrollment
  • Children welcome to attend and encouraged to work with parental supervision at home, but beginner groups are designed for adult learning.  Children may not handle dogs in beginner groups and adult must have possession of dog's leash at all times.
  • Multiple adult owners encouraged to attend and take turns working the dog
  • Each date listed is for the START DATE for each six week class
  • Pup = under 6 months old (usually after Puppy K, but not required)
    Adult = over 6 months old (no upper age limit
  • Please check your schedules carefully, class fees are non-refundable and not transferable to other services or merchandise. We are happy to send you the homework or make-up sessions may be purchased for weeks 2-6. If we have another class open available for the week missed, you may be able to attend that class instead.
  • A valid copy of rabies certificate must be provided. Please make a copy and leave it with us the first week of class.
  • Some issues are not able to be addressed in a group format.  Consider private sessions if you need to deal with specific behavioral issues.  Private sessions may be added to group classes on an a la carte basis.  Dogs with aggression are not appropriate for group classes (many dogs are noisy due to frustration when leashed near other dogs, this is usually NOT aggression and is something often handled in groups).  Feel free to call if you have questions.

  • Basic commands: sit, down, coming when called (intro and advanced), stay, attention,loose leash walking, heeling, verbal control/leash out of hands if ready, "leave it", "off" and "quiet" and other behavioral topics

  • Easy and effective ways to teach

  • Be a good leader, without physical force!

  • Polite greetings

  • Control chewing, utilize chews effectively

  • Proper use of redirection to create desired behavior

  • Incrementally proof behaviors for reliability even with distractions

  • Understand timing, clickers (or verbal markers)  and randomization of reinforcement to avoid future treat dependence

  • Verbal control: loose leash, loose leash, loose leash!!!
